Anthony Smith, PhD

Chief Science Officer

Chief Science Officer of EVIO Labs and founder of Kenevir Research, Dr. Anthony Smith received his PhD from Oregon State University in Molecular & Cellular Biology with an emphasis on biochemistry, metabolism and nutrition. Before entering the Cannabis industry, Dr. Smith worked in natural products and biomedical research while serving as a leading international authority on aging, lipoic acid and vascular disease. He brings over 15 years of natural product research, quality assurance, product development, GMP manufacturing, FDA & regulatory experience and analytical chemistry expertise to EVIO Labs.

Dr. Smith was recently appointed to the Oregon governor’s Task Force on Researching the Medicinal and Public Health Properties of Cannabis and serves on the scientific advisory board for the Ashland, Oregon based non-profit medical and horticultural research group, the Health Research Institute.

Henry Grimmett

President

Henry, co-founder of GreenHaus Analytical Labs, was first introduced to outdoor Cannabis cultivation in Humboldt County in 1970. After changing his academic focus from oceanography to botany, he moved to San Diego and had the great fortune of studying plant biochemistry and plant physiology with David Rayle and Steve Johnson at San Diego State University, who were conducting pioneering research on IA (auxin) and other growth hormones in plants. Over the years he worked extensively with pesticides and herbicides studying their efficacy and environmental effects.

More recently he and his wife Susan founded Glass Alchemy where they introduced many new colors into the borosilicate glass palette: many of which your favorite glassblower probably uses. Henry brings a strong research bent to the company as well as experience with regulatory compliance and accreditation protocols.

Ellen Parkin, MS

Laboratory Director, EVIO / Bend

Ellen Parkin currently serves as the laboratory director of EVIO / Bend located in Bend, Oregon. Prior to entering the Cannabis industry, she spent time working in various lab settings within the brewing industry studying microbiology, fermentation science, and sensory science. After obtaining her MS in Fermentation Science from Oregon State University, she went on to work as Senior Lab Technician at Worthy Brewing Company where she built the lab up from a single microscope and pH meter to a full service lab. Her work in sensory science has awarded her the opportunity to gain unique experience analyzing and studying many of the same terpene and terpenoid compounds present in hops that are also present in Cannabis.

Ian graduated from Southern Oregon University with a BS in Chemistry where he gained hands-on experience with a variety of analytical chemistry techniques including liquid and gas chromatography, NMR, mass spectroscopy, UV-Vis Spectroscopy, RAMAN Spectroscopy, AAS, and ICP/OES. Ian’s collegiate capstone work focused on elucidating the electrochemistry of wine tannins using chromatographic separation via HPLC and compound characterization with cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry.

Ian later spent several years working as an enologist for Pallet Wine Company, a custom crush facility located in the Rogue Valley, where he oversaw the production of all wine lots, totaling over 1000 barrels of wine, from grape crush to bottling. Ian managed the laboratory there performing various chemical extractions and characterizations including titrations, distillations, free-SO2 analysis, protein stability assays, alcohol level determination, enzymatic assays, and chromatography. After working in the wine industry, Mr. Riversong went on to spend over a year in the cannabis industry serving as a chemist developing cannabinoid and terpenoid extraction and analytical methods while operating and maintaining various extraction technologies including supercritical fluid extractors and short-path stills in a production environment.

Michael Lausmann

Vice President of Sales

After a cancer diagnosis and enduring a year-long chemotherapy treatment, Mr. Lausmann became a believer in the efficacy of medical Cannabis and its abilities to both alleviate symptoms and assist in the healing of a variety of illnesses. At that time, true medical grade Cannabis was difficult to find. Because he featured a compromised immune system, the contaminants present in Cannabis produced a variety of adverse side effects. Their passion for safe, clean alternatives to traditional medicine and their compassion for suffering patients inspired Mike and his wife, Sara, to found Oregon Analytical Services in 2014. Over the following two years, Mr. Lausmann recruited scientists from the University of Oregon and grew the company to five employees and hundreds of clients.
